EVERYONE IS A LEADER…
We all lead something or someone and we
follow something or someone. We are all entrusted with something
or someone. Ultimately though, who we follow determines the
scale, scope and nature of our leadership.
Leadership is often defined by those in
power or in authority, usually according to what that leader
values and what their motivations are. Yet, the power and
authority that exists in this world pales in comparison to
the ultimate authority and power of from God the Father and
Jesus Christ His Son. Divine power is defined much differently
than worldly power and with a much different agenda. This
power and authority is selfless and not self-serving, hence
the term “servant” leadership.
Only the grace of Jesus Christ and the wisdom
of the Holy Spirit will allow us to emulate the only real
model of leadership that exists, that of Jesus Christ. To
become a leader worthy of Christ, we will check our worldly
identities at the door, and exchange our entire being for
the new clothing of a kingdom identity. We surrender in obedience
to the King, Jesus Christ. Surrender and obedience are foundational
to spiritual leadership.
It follows that the qualities of faith,
hope and love (1 Cor. 13:13) will be intensely pursued and
manifest themselves in our lives as we prepare ourselves for
a “life of mission.” This mission is not our mission,
it is a call to the Lord’s mission for the redemption
of the world through His leaders, enabled by the power of
the Holy Spirit for all generations to come.
Regardless of our vocation, each of us seeks
significance in life. The answer to this significance and
this question always ends in moving people from secular agendas
to God’s agenda. Surrender, grow in faith, hope, love
and move forward in mission toward the voice that says in
Matthew 25:21, “Well done, good and faithful servant.”
